Keep encouraged!!!  / Adora Huddleston (friend of her children )

I really didn't know Cathy very well; however, my older sister was at the Baker family household many times during our middle school years. I truly remember my sister having a blast at their house and inviting Jen over many times to our place. Cathy must have been an amazing woman to have raised such a wonderful daughter such as Jen that my sister could truly trust and confide in during those difficult adolescent years!

I understand how strong families have to be after losing a loved one. April and I lost our mother to ovarian cancer in August 2002. So keep encouraged as you are not alone. You will never replace your mother and the emptiness will never be filled; however, through much lover and prayer, God will help you to be strong as he truly understands! Remember, he is available at all hours and you don't have to brief him on the situation. He knows and he truly cares!

Take care!!!

Adora Huddleston :)

In Honor of Her  / Jen (daughter)

Many things have happened in the last three years since mom went home to be with God.  I often think… “I wish Mom were here for this”… or … “I really wish I could tell Mom what just happened”… or… “I wish Mom knew what was going on”… or… “Mom would really love this”… or … “I bet Mom would be so proud”.
I have these thoughts almost everyday and it makes me sad because in the last three years she has missed so much.  Then, I believe God reassures me that I should not be sad but I should feel privileged that through my life I can honor her and her legacy.

All four of us kids have done so much within the last three years.  Every time one of us overcomes an obstacle, accomplishes a goal, or achieves a new life milestone it is a tribute to the wonderful mother we had.

Here are a few ways that the four of us have honored mom in the last three years…

Jessica…
... Brought honor to mom when she had Ava!
... Brought honor to mom by finishing Nursing school and then subsequently getting a job as a nurse at Riverside.
... Brought honor to mom by remaining brave and strong throughout her terribly hard divorce.
... Brought honor to mom by meeting Joe, who is a wonderful man who loves mom’s Honey Bunny and Ava so much.
... Brings honor mom every time she spends time with Alana or Ava or gives them a hug or a kiss.
... Brings honor to mom everyday by being a giving selfless mother- just like her!

Jason…
... Brings honor to mom every time he passes another really hard Organic Chemistry lab or class.
... Brought honor to mom by being accepted at OSU!
... Brings honor to mom by working hard and solely putting himself through school.
... Brings honor to mom by being able to live on his own and supporting himself without anyone’s help.
... Brought honor to mom by meeting Kristin, whom my mom would love.
... Brings honor to mom by treating her like a princess as mom would always say… “Make sure you treat her like a princess.”

Jen…
... Brought honor to mom by becoming a teacher.
... Brings honor to mom every time she completes a class or passes a test.
... Brings honor to mom every time she helps a child learn something new.
... Brings honor to mom when she has a positive impact on her students' lives.
... Brought honor to mom with her marriage to Alec.
... Brings honor to mom when she sings praises to God. (Even if it is just when she is driving in mom's car.)

Josh…
... Brought honor to mom when he graduated High School.
... Brings honor to mom by working on his education.
... Brings honor to mom by going to church, reading his bible and truly having a close relationship with Christ.
... Brings honor to mom through his love of music and playing in his amazing Christian band.
... Brings honor to mom through his ministry to tell others about God’s love and salvation.
... Brings honor to mom by continuing her work by praying for and ministering to our family in an effort to bring the whole family closer to God.

I know mom would be proud of these accomplishments, conquered obstacles, and perseverance of goals.  I know that there are millions of other ways that we have honored mom in the last three years.  If there is something else you would like to list please post it in her tributes and condolences file!

There are many more people besides us kids that honor mom and her legacy.  Anyone who has been touched by Cathy’s life can honor her even in the little things that they do.  Every time you help a friend, pray for someone in need, love your neighbor as yourself, work hard at your job, give when you have nothing to give, put someone else’s needs before yourself, show someone compassion, etc, you can honor Cathy's remarkable life.

All of mom’s loved ones can do things to honor her everyday. Let it be encouraging to all of us that we can live our lives In Honor of Her.

My Mother  / Hoyt Jason (Son)
As we all know we will never love any one in our lifes as much as we do our mother.  I pray every night hoping that I will meet someone that is half the person that she was.  I also ask for this of myself because she was the most amazing person that I have ever known.  Everyday I miss her more and more but through our memories and the help of this site not only can we remember her forvever but everyone that was touched by her will be able to do like wise.

Thank you Jen for this site,
Love always,
Jason

Easter / Jen   Read >>
Easter / Jen
I miss my mommy so much at Easter. It was that the last holiday that I had her. She was so sweet. She was so sick but she worried about everyone else. She kept saying things over and over again because her illness was making her forgetful. She kept saying “I didn’t get Alec a card or anything… I want him to feel like part of the family… maybe I will just give him some money or something.” I kept telling her “it’s OK… don’t worry about Alec… he is fine and he doesn’t need a card or money.” She always thought about everyone else before herself.  We lost her shortly after Easter.

She always did have childlike faith. I want to be more like her. I want more faith and I pray for it each day, but it is so hard with out her.
I have been reading this verse over and over again:

I am the resurrection and the life:
He who believes in me,
Though he were dead,
Yet shall he live:
And whosoever liveth and believeth in me,
Shall never die.  (John 11: 25-26)

I need to cling to this promise- that I will see my mommy again. I can’t wait to see her again. I love her so much.

This Christmas Season  / Jen
The Chirstmas season is approaching and I have been thinking about my mom constantly.  She loved Christmas, because she loved the story of Christ's humble birth.  Christmas was another wonderful opportunity to share her faith and the power of God's love with others.  Another reason why my mom loved Christmas is because she loved to give.  Giving presents was her favorite thing to do!  She would give the shirt off her back if someone needed it.

I purchased Disney's Classic Cartoons Vol. 9 for Alana this last week.  On the video there is a cartoon called Small One.  I haven't seen the video since I was a child and I had forgotten all about it until I started watching it with Alana.  My mom loved this cartoon and so did all of us kids.  It is wonderful story about a little boy who has a little donkey.  The little boy's family can not keep the donkey anymore because of financial reasons so the boy goes to town to sell him.  No one wants the donkey and everyone makes fun of him.  At the end of the story Joseph purchases the donkey so Mary can ride him to Bethlehem.  I remember my mom tearing up at the end of the cartoon.   God had a important purpose for the donkey even though everyone else thought he had no worth.  Jesus sees worth in the small, weak and insignificant.  Most importantly He sees worth in you!  He loves us all so much.  My mom always told me to remember the people that may be alone or sad at Christmas.  In Jesus' eyes they are valued treasure.  This Christmas remember to love, give and make each other feel valued because Jesus loves everyone so much! On this, the day of your birth, Jesus rejoiced and the angels sang knowing that a new baby would be blessed with such a wonderful soul. I knew you for half of my life, and you were, and still are, the kindest person that I ever met. I still think of you often and smile. Thank you for your kind works, for teaching others how to live, and for touching so many lives. Thank you most of all for bringing Jen, Jess, Jason, and Josh into the world. Jen is my other half, and Jess, Jace, and Joshie are my siblings.

Much love, and I can't wait until we meet again,

My Best Friend  / Jen (Daughter)
My mom was not just my mother.  She was my best friend.  I could tell her anything.  She was the best listener ever.  We would talk several times a day.  I don't think I ever went a whole day in my life without talking to her.  I always loved just hanging out with her.  If I was having a hard time she was always there for me.  She would even get up in the middle of the night if I needed her to.  It is impossible to write down all the ways she was a friend to me. I am so blessed to have had my mom and an amazing best friend all it one. Close

My mom is my hero.  She was the most loving person I have ever known.  She was so understanding, compationate, and caring.  She was always there for me whenever I needed her.  She always gave me unconditional love and support.  I want to be as loving as her in all my relationships.  I hope someday I can be as good of a friend, sister, daughter, wife, and mother as she was.   Close
